As the first joint-release from two friends who have worked closely together on-and-off for the past decade, we hoped to pair personal songs of our own which, despite being written separately, share common themes that seem ever more present during this whirlwind of a year.
"'Buffalo Clover' is a tune to a city in quarantine. Written in April 2020, it mourns a lost spring in Austin, where the wildflowers bloomed to too few eyes and even the sterile streetscapes felt sorrowful." - Max
"'Tongue In Cheek' was originally written for and performed by Lee Terrace in 2014. Conceived around ruminations on mental health, the theme and message I originally sought to convey seem just as relevant now as it did then. The inclusion of the first Menuet from Bach's 3rd Partita for solo Violin (BWV 1006) seemed like a perfect fit as an interlude between the two tracks. A beautifully quaint dance and peacefully cathartic palate cleanser." - Kevin
During this trying time, we hope to reach the ears and hearts of friends, as we are donating 50% of our sales to the Equal Justice Initiative. While we explore topics of mental illness and pandemic quarantining, we can't begin to fathom what it is like to be marginalized by a system that we're forced to trust. While all of us are being challenged by various struggles this year, African Americans are again pushed to the brink.
In solidarity with our brothers and sisters who have dealt with this for over 400 years, we are proud to give to an organization that is "challenging racial and economic injustice and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society." We hope you will consider purchasing this music for them.
